Loosest @ Rhythm & Vines

Rhythm and Vines is one of the most wicked music festivals in New Zealand - especially if you're around for new years.

Loosest.co was selected to be part of the retail crew for the 2016 Rhythm and Vines Music Festival in Gisborne!

There's nothing better than getting loose at one of the sickest new years parties in New Zealand, so we brought some of our gear down in the van (plus the strongman) and headed over to the east cape.

"There's nothing like a midsummer music festival in New Zealand. Rhythm and Vines is the perfect party for new years - beautiful outdoor site, heaps of tunes (CHANCE THE RAPPER this year!), loads of chilled out young people, camping for days (some rain), and the buzz is turned all the way up."

The best part of going to music festivals is the people you meet. Sure, the music was dope and the vibe was positive. But nowhere else can you meet so many people for the first time and feel like you've known them for ages.

I am the mudman! Goo goo gajoob!

We brought strongman.

Artists from all over the world make the trip out to NZ to be in Gizzy for new years. This year, we got to see:

We had a blast chillin with the 2017 Rhythm & Vines Crew. The best part was hanging out with you, the crowd enjoyin the festival. It was sick havin a chat with you guys! We recommend to anyone, local or abroad, to check out Rhythm and Vines and buy tickets to kick off 2018 down on Waiokia Estate in Gisbourne, New Zealand.

Did you miss R&V?

Or were you there but can't remember a damn thing?

We've got you covered.

Loosest.co Artist of the Month!

Meet our Loosest Artist of the Month, Tam Hill.

Loosest is all about showcasing your art, and we figured what better way to promote it than to put it on clothes being sold around the world.

Of all submissions for the December AOTM campaign, we selected Kiwi artist, Tam Hill to represent #looseststyle

Tam is currently soaking up the arts culture in Taranaki after recently completing a Masters of Teaching and Learning in Waikato. With experience producing audio books in Auckland, Tam’s skills have hit the page where he now designs and illustrates print books and infographics as a digital artist in his spare time.

The Loosest fam had a few questions for Tam.

So how long you been drawing? What inspired you to start?

"The pages of my school exercise books were always lined with random sketches and doodles, and I used to digitally edit my friends into movie scenes when I was in my early teens (15ish years ago). Eventually, I transferred my skills with image editing software over to Photoshop when it became more accessible and widely popular. At 19 I bought myself a Wacom tablet so that I didn’t have to keep scanning my sketches into the computer. I could now do limitless art without having to worry about wasting paint or paper, and that’s how I got into digital illustration."

We're definitely fans of the Wacom bro. Great way to get into digital drawing.

What's Tam's ideal environment for making art?

"Whilst probably not ideal for most, I enjoy working on art in bed or on the couch. Organising my pillows to be just right is far more comfortable than leaning over a drawing desk."

And What made you want to submit your designs to Loosest.co?

"I had liked the loosest.co page on Facebook after seeing some wicked geometric style designs. When “Calling all artists” popped up on my news feed I thought I could design something appropriate to match the loosest style."

Tam, we're lucky you answered the call. Your design was instantly liked by the Loosest Crew, and it's obvious you're a digital design legend.

Now, there's something that's been bugging me for a while that maybe you could put to rest. How would society be different if people had tails?

"Asking the important questions. If people had tails, they would probably be naked tails and without fur - that’s just nasty. But, with animal tails we’d have some pretty amazing sports to play and watch. Think of kangaroos using their tail as a third leg when they jump kick, cheetahs using their tail as a counterweight when maneuvering at speed, or of course the tree sports we could invent if we had spider monkey tails..."

Wicked. what's next for you?

"Who can say? I'd like to embark on a project that uses my skills in research, writing, visual text, audio and digital content production, so shout out to any New Zealand employer."

Tam, thanks for being the Loosest Artist of the Month.

Peruvian Beans

Thanks to YOU, our Loosest supporters around the globe, we're proud to share that we, as a community, have been able to help another entrepreneur in the world.

When you look that good at 52, you've got to be doing something right.

When you look that good at 52, you've got to be doing something right.

Meet José, a hard-working young man at the golden age of 52. Ever since a wee lad, his padres taught him the craft of organic coffee cultivation.

Now, he's starting to grow his own.

Unless you've been lucky and inherited land or have the wealth needed to buy it, people in Josés community typically farm for somebody else. From San Ignacio, Peru, he has been developing 3 hectares of his own to grow and sell Peruvian beans. Each year, he sells the fruits of his labour to an organic and fair trade coffee cooperative called Cenfrocafe

Organic farming is tough work, and José needed a leg up to purchase extra manure to get his coffee crop going.

Seeing as here in the Loosest.co office we need our daily coffee break to take care of our own business (and probably your office too), we've handed over some much needed cash to José to help him do what he does best.

José, thanks to your dignifying ambition, you bring more organic coffee to us all. For coffee drinkers all over the world, our own goals and dreams start with the work you put in.

People like José keep the world moving. And we all need an extending hand once in a while. We think it's about time somebody extended an extra appreciation to people like José, putting in the sweat to earn a living for his family and take care of the rest of us.

If you want to try some of José and Cenfrocafe's organic, fair trade beans, we strongly recommend Groundwork coffee.

Pugs. Love or hate 'em, they sure do loosen up the office-sphere.

That's what we've found ever since we let our new office boss, Peppa, take over things.

Don't get us wrong. We love what we do. Making art relevant again in our everyday lives is business as pleasure at its finest.

But there always comes that moment where you feel like the day has flown by and the environment has gone stale. After reading a famous pug blog, we couldn't resist the temptation. That's when we decided to adopt a 3-month old pup named Peppa. Never before has the party been lifted so easily once again.

Some scientists say that when a pug is allowed into the office, life expectancy increases for all staff. Not only does this make everyone more willing to work for you, it also keeps those pesky health insurance bills for employees at bay. When there is a pug in the office, it seems people feel healthier and stay home less.

If you decide to confront your boss about bringing the pug life into the action plan for your company, simply refer to the bar graph as one sample that has been tested by the Loosest crew here in Auckland, New Zealand.

INSPIRATION IN THE OFFICE BY %

As you can see, inspiration in the Loosest office is at an all time high with Peppa in charge.

Scientific or not, it's real people.

Loosest Photoshoot in Istanbul

Besides having an immense appreciation for this metropolis which has been expanding for centuries, we were here for our first global photoshoot. The prospect of a weekend where we began our mission to celebrate art filled us with energy - young entrepreneurs ready to bring art back into the fold made us eager to take a long walk in Istanbul.

Launching Loosest.co

Loosest.co started as the brain child of four individuals who saw a lack of artistic expression in modern day clothing and set out to make a change. The loosest crew has 4 members, an interesting mix of two Kiwis, an Australian, and an American.

We're all about the art and the people. Our mission is backed up with the sole intention to spice up the lives of like minded people craving to add some art and originality into their clothing and accessories without breaking the bank.
